KARACHI: Stringent security arrangements have been made to avert any possible attempt of sabotage at the central procession and other Youm-e-Ali related gatherings in the city on Thursday.
According to police officials, special robots will be used for bomb-sweeping at the central procession from Numaish Chowrangi on MA Jinnah Road to Kharadar via Saddar.
The robots, gifted by US and Britain to Sindh Police, can also be used to diffuse improvised explosive devices (IEDs). These special robots are controlled through specialized vans.
Mobile phone services are also likely to be suspended throughout the day besides an already announced ban on pillion riding.
Main route of the central procession has been sealed by placing containers and will remain shut for normal traffic today.
Earlier on Wednesday, processions taken out in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Peshawar to commemorate the martyrdom of Hazrat Ali (A) culminated peacefully.
