Sharmin Ubaid Chinoy Wins Oscar Award 2nd Time
Los Angles Oscar 2016: Sharmin Ubaid Chinoy has won the Oscar Award for 2nd time. Sharmin Ubaid Chinoy is a Pakistani girl and she made a documentary named”A Girl In The River“. Her documentary film was nominated for Oscar award. Today she has won the award for 2nd time. She won the 1st Oscar Award in 2012 on her 1st documentary “Saving Face“. That film was made on Pakistani women facing tortures in home and outside.
On 14 January 2016 Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s documentary A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness was one of five films worldwide to be nominated in the category of “Best Documentary – Short Subject” by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. This is Chinoy’s second nomination, and the first Oscar nomination for her production house, SOC Films.
On the 15th of February 2016, Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy met with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad to discuss the measures required to plug the loopholes in the law which allow the perpetrators of honour killings to walk free.On the 22nd of February 2016, the first screening of “A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness” was held at the Prime Minister Secretariat in Islamabad, opened by remarks made by Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy and the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif himself – concerning the amendments needed to prevent honour killings from occurring in Pakistan.
After receiving the Oscar Academy Award, Sharmin thanked her parents. She said that her film may change the law of Honour Killings in Pakistan and she also thanked Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and hoped that PM will change the laws.
