PM summons ministers, advisers over MQM’s resignations today

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has convened a meeting of top officials  and close aides to discuss the issue of  MQM’s resignations on Thursday (today).

The Prime Minister, who was earlier scheduled to go to Lahore, arrived in Islamabad from a three-day visit to Belarus and met Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali.

According to sources, Nisar briefed the prime minister about the resignations of MQM’s parliamentarians from Senate, National Assembly and Sindh Assembly.

Separately, JUI-F head Maulana Fazlur Rehman urged MQM to reconsider its decision.

In a telephonic call to National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, he said that MQM’s resignations should not be accepted.

KARACHI: Following a political imbroglio spawned by the resignations of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) lawmakers, Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Sar contacted Muttahida’s central leader Dr. Farooq Sattar and appealed to him to take back party’s resignations.

In response to Dar’s advance, Sattar was of the view that the authority in this connection rests with the government.

The finance minister underscored, “The government wishes to see the elected representatives of the public back in the Parliament.”

Earlier, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif returned home after a three-day Belarus visit and was briefed at the airport by Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan about the developing situation regarding the MQM resignations.
